A shared priority across towns and LGAs in our region is ensuring young people clearly understand the breadth of opportunities available locally. Supporting young people to stay, return, and build their careers in the region is critical to sustaining our workforce, strengthening communities, and securing long term regional growth.
In November 2025, we attended numerous events that brought together educators, employers, and students from Year 10 through to graduating university students, creating meaningful connections between learning and real world regional careers. These experiences were designed to spark aspiration, build awareness, and show young people what’s possible close to home.
Our work included participating in the Exploring Regional Careers Panel at Deakin University, alongside industry and local government partners, and supporting an immersive Amplitude Energy site tour, facilitated by the Neil Porter Legacy where students explored STEM, energy, and trade pathways within a major local operation. Across these activities, 90+ students gained insight into the diversity of opportunities available across the South Coast of Victoria.
Together, these events highlighted the strength of regional careers – offering lifestyle balance, industry diversity, and strong employer – educator partnerships – and demonstrated how collaboration helps build clear, inspiring pathways that keep local talent connected to the region.
