Local Jobs – Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, Australian Government
Local Jobs is a collaborative place-based initiative to ensure local labour markets work well for all Australians, in partnership with business and communities. Local Jobs supports tailored, local approaches to skilling individuals to meet local workforce needs.
Workforce Australia Local Jobs includes the following key elements:
- Job Coordinator
- Local Support Officer
- Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce
- Local Jobs Plan
- Access to Local Initiatives Fund to support and deliver small scale local activities that respond to community priorities that improve the local labour market
Job Coordinators are on the ground in 51 Employment Regions and bring together local employment and skills services, employers and community organisations to connect people to training, job opportunities and support services. They focus on connecting, collaborating and building capacity within the community to help meet local workforce needs. Based in the South Coast of Victoria? View your Job Coordinator’s details.
Your local Job Coordinator can:
- Connect you with programs, services, funding opportunities and resources in your local area.
- Provide advice to help businesses get the most out of hiring practices to attract and retain the right staff.
- Work with organisations to develop workforce initiatives and solutions.
- Share information and insights about the skills and workforce priorities and actions in the Local Jobs Plan.

Local Initiatives Fund
The Local Initiatives Fund provides $50,000 each year to support projects that strengthen skills, employment opportunities, and collaboration across the South Coast of Victoria.
The fund backs practical, locally driven initiatives that help people on income support move into secure jobs or training pathways, improve how the local labour market functions, and align with priorities identified in the region’s Local Jobs Plan.
Funding can support activities such as pre-employment programs, training and community connection initiatives, job expos and workshops, industry capability-building events, innovative employment projects, and targeted responses to local labour-market challenges.

The Job Coordinator and Taskforce have developed a Local Jobs Plan, which outlines employment priorities and actions. It can be used by individuals, organisations and communities to understand their local labour market and help them inform local initiatives that assist their community.
Local data insights ensure the Local Jobs Plan reflects the skills and workforce needs of the region.
Local jobs plans are updated regularly and published on the Job Coordinators and Employment Region page of the DEWR website.
