Careers and Conversations: Early childhood education

Early childhood education takes centre stage at second community event

The Local Jobs Program, in partnership with the Warrnambool Library and Learning Centre, hosted its second Careers and Conversations event on Wednesday 18 March — this time spotlighting career pathways in Early Childhood Education.

The session brought together interested community members, current students and local employers in a relaxed, welcoming space designed to spark meaningful conversations. Representatives from The Honeypot, Warrnambool City Council and North Edge Early Learning Centre attended, offering firsthand insights into their services, job opportunities and what it’s like to work in the sector.

Support from SWTAFE and are able training added valuable guidance on qualifications, training options and pathways into early childhood roles, helping participants understand how to take their next step with confidence.

Employers also shared short organisational overviews, with two speaking candidly about beginning their careers in entry level roles and progressing to become childcare centre owners—stories that resonated strongly with attendees.

The feedback reflected the impact of the event:

  • 80% of participants said they would recommend the session to others
  • 69% reported they were now more likely to apply for roles or undertake training in the sector

Attendees praised the accessible format and the chance to meet employers face-to-face, reinforcing the value of this industry focused, community centred approach to local workforce development.
