In May 2025, the PLACE Tour visited Warrnambool and Hamilton, hosted in partnership with Deakin University and the South West Community Foundation, providing a space for local leaders to hear directly from communities about what’s working, what’s holding them back, and where opportunities for change exist.
Across both regions, conversations reflected the strength of collaboration in communities where people often wear many hats and trusted relationships are central to progress. The South Coast of Victoria Local Jobs Program team were proud to be part of a presenting collaboration in the showcase alongside Warrnambool Library and Learning Hub and Brophy Family and Youth Services with the work they delivered for the Virtual Drivers Academy. Other presenters shared practical, locally grounded approaches that support confidence, participation and pathways to opportunity.
The tour included visits and conversations with Western Region Alcohol and Drug Centre (WRAD) in Warrnambool, the National Centre for Farmer Health and Standing Tall Mentoring in Hamilton, alongside the regional roundtables hosted by the South West Community Foundation.
These gatherings brought together local councils, not for profits, philanthropies, education providers, health services and volunteer networks. Every contribution was anchored in local knowledge and shared commitment. The discussions were practical, focused and generous in spirit, with a clear message emerging in both locations: collaboration is already happening — now it’s time to take it further.
Across South West Victoria, the PLACE Tour reinforced a simple truth: local communities aren’t waiting to be saved — they’re building their futures together.
